I don't usually put my 2 cents in, but I'm gonna this time...
The biggest thing that bothers me is that I don't go to church anywhere, but have been thinking about it a lot lately. But this bickering is reminding me of why I quit in the first place. Too much drama. You expect that in school and even work, but not church. That's where you're supposed to be loved NO MATTER WHAT! And, unfortunately, it's not happening with many of the churches in this league.
p.s. This isn't directed at any particular church, because it seems like the majority of the churches have been involved in these spats over the years.

Well, April, this is the problem. Church is not a place for perfect people but rather a perfect place for people. It upsets me to hear that you have had negative experiences at Church. However, I too have had numerous negative situations at church and have been hurt for stupid reasons or no reason at all. However, I have found with me that the closer I get to God in my own personal relationship, and start lower my expectations of others (since we're imperfect people), then I don't get hurt as easily.
I invite you to come to my church, Raven Assembly of God.

i agree with you brad, Church is a PERFECT place for imperfect people. i have learned that this league is a great place to get people saved but if we are bickering between each other and each church, then we have failed in the goals of lifting up Christ and leading others to Him, which is my church's MAIN GOAL, leading the lost to Christ... so yes believe it or not i agree with brad... just picking.... but i think this league has alot of potential to be great, and have alot of churchs playing at it... and i would love to see more teams inviteing "sinners" to come and play for them, thats how my team came about, we had several people that were not saved on our team when we started practice, but by the time the season started everyone on our team was saved, and thats what its all about.... ok i think im done putting my two cents in... and MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU!

Well over the past few days ive thought alot about why I came out to play softball in the first place in the Richlands Church Softball League. Its about making friends, and being apart of something good, having fun and getting to play some ball. Its an outreach of your church, and the people that go to that church...AND THE PEOPLE THAT DONT, but are invited to come! It is called being a light to those that are still living in darkness, and the light is as dim as it has been for our league.
Weve saw several people come to Jesus through our softball leaugue, so that tells me that something is RIGHT SOMEWHERE! Even in a season where so much negative has defined the season, people were saved all because they were invited to do something that they were interested in doing, and it just so happened to be a church function.
And most of the problems this season stemmed from the Jackrabbits to hear many, many of you tell it. Well, I can tell any of you one thing: We were not given a fair shake when it came down to it. We had a few internal team problems, and we got to the heart of them quickly, and we did it with love and respect for one another. Nothing more was said over the team issues and we kept on keeping on! Then of course, we were also involved with several rule discrepencies on the small field. Is the ball dead when it goes over if an outfielder carries it over? That one came up twice against 2 different teams, but the thing about it: The same answer applied to both games! The right call was made, but since it benefited us, it surely was a travesty of justice. Thats just what I heard! Any time you get alot of different people umpiring games, making calls, and making the decisions, then you are gonna see some differences in opinion and the way things are handled and hashed out. We took alot of flack all season because the League President was our coach and our team member. No special treatment was ever given to our team because of his position in league office! Many of you already have your mind made up about us, and their is nothing that can be said to change that. We werent intending on anyone getting hurt, or hit at intentionally. That is not a team goal of ours...to hit at anyone, and at anytime...whether we are winning or losing! We still had to abide by the same rules that all of you had to abide by. I can think of not even ONE exceptiion!
So their is a question of why a forfeit had to occur! Well, I knew nothing about the UMPIRE calling the game and leaving the field until I saw him at his truck. He knows the rules of the league, and hes been at it for a long time. He called the game a forfeit and awarded our team the win, in what I BELIEVE to be a rule that said that no spectator from any team could enter the playing field area to argue or any other combative gesture. While the most of the argument took place on the hill between the bleachers and our bench, their were a few that did make their way to the field, along the 3rd base line and proceeded to threaten player(s). At least 1 player on the field at that time also did verbally threaten one of our players on the field at that time as well, since we did have runners on base. Bottom Line: I DONT BLAME HIM FOR CALLING THE GAME! It got completely out of hand, and I was embarrased to be a part of such a spectacle, with women and children present to watch the lack of sportsmanship and lack of christianity in a league that attempts to boast the best of both! The problem could have probably been resolved by calling EVERYONE OFF THE FIELD AND OFF THE BENCHES AND PRAYING FOR THE PEACE OF GOD, LOVE, UNDERSTANDING, and FOR THE WAVES TO BE CALMED. Things happened pretty fast, and noone really seemed interested in what God woulda wanted to have told us at that point anyway!
The season is over, and perhaps if we can come up with a good reason, maybe, JUST MAYBE, we will find some participation for a league next season. Many changes should, and certainly WILL be made, but at this point, it will take alot to salvage any reputation points our league could have.
Perhaps God will send those that diligently pray for the answer a solution to make the league a true CHRISTIAN SPORTS LEAGUE, rather than a CHURCH league. Perhaps too much emphasis has been placed on the CHURCH, and not on the CHRISTIAN part of it! Religion, not relationship. Hanging out, not fellowship. Church, not Christ. THESE THINGS ARENT WORKING TOO WELL! I dont want a league that EXCLUDES people that dont look like we would prefer them to, or talk, or act in ways we would like to see. We need to accept them all, and allow our lights to burn through the darkness so that anyone can be saved, not in church, but on a softball field. Its not that wild of an idea. Ive saw it happen before! And it WORKS! Softball season was over, and they were still coming to church.
We need the League overhauled and emphasis put back where it needs to be. Surely, enough of us love what we COULD HAVE and have had before in this league, to fix the problems before our leauge goes belly up. Its on life support now!
Lets use this forum HERE on this RCSL LEAGUE TALK board to find ways to FIX the problems we know are there, and to eliminate the potential for problems in the future.
Love and blessings to you all, Chuck

The Umpire didnt award any body the game he just left, I am not sure when the game was awarded to the Jackrabbits, some time after we all left the field I can assume, that person who came down the third base line was not on my roster at all neither was anything that was going on on the hill between the bleachers and your dugout, the person there was not on my roster either, Doug never made any indication about who forfeited or who he was "awarding" the game to.

Does it really matter? Here we are two weeks after the game still fussing about who should have won. Who really cares? Yes I know I play for the Jackrabbits and the forfeit went to us but even if things were the other way I wouldn't still be worrying about it now. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I got way too much other stuff to think about than who should have won the game. It is just a game, a game that was supposed to be fun but got ruined for some of us. Chuck is correct when he said that our team has been criticized all season. Someone from the stands at the tournament walked by our bench pointed his finger at us and told us that none of us belong on a church league team. Well, I have never said a bad word to any of you and if you don't know me then don't judge me until you do. Then if you don't like me I still don't care. I guarantee I won't lose any sleep over it. I don't appreciate it at all. And if this is how a bunch of church people are going to act then I don't want to be a part of it. I have played in other leagues and this stuff just don't happen there. So you tell me what the problem is? I don't know about the rest of you but I love to play softball and I hate when it is over. What is going to eventually happen is there is not going to be a league because of all he bickering. And that really sucks for those of us who love to play, come to the field play the game, and go home (win or lose) and not complain about it. I am just as competitive as the next person but I am not going to let my competitiveness make me act like a fool. And to comment on balls being hit at the pitcher, I don't think anyone on our team would try to intentionally hurt someone else. I have known most of these guys for years and they are not like that. Pitcher is a position on the field. You are going to get balls hit back at you and if that is something you can't handle then play a different position. It happens. Most of the guys in the league hit the ball hard. I have watched men's league games and the pitcher gets hit sometimes in those games too. Those guys say I am sorry and go on about the game with no drama. All this stuff is really silly and crazy. I have kept quite to this point so here is my comment on all this. If this rubs you the wrong way then I am sorry but sometimes the truth hurts. If you want to dislike me for my comment then go ahead and know that it doesn't bother me at all. Everyone just needs to let this go so we might actually have a league next year and those of us who love to play will get that chance.

I would have to agree with the batman! Its a finished product and nothing more needs to be said concerning it. As I said before, we just need to turn focus toward repairing OUR LEAGUE before we end up losing it altogether. Maybe some of you dont give a RATS FURRY TUSH bout it, but I for one DO, and I would love to continue to play and regain the fellowship and fun that I used to have with the mere THOUGHT of playing softball at the fields!
So, lets see if we can do some PRODUCTIVE and POSITIVE brainstorming on just HOW in the blue blazes to fix whats wrong with our league.
batman, you are a prime candidate for input on this issue. Youve seen alot and know what it should be about, and what it should have been about all along. So give us a hand to fix it please. EVERYONE, please, give us some quality input on what we can ALL DO to see it keep on going, BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE!
and batman...looking forward to your new movie. Cant you speed it up a little?! LOL

Ok i am gettin sick and tired of hearing all this bickering this is church league people, i know i am a apart of the jackrabbits and i am saying it is just as much our fault. We need to be able to forgive each other and go on like good people would do. This is not the end of the world, it wasn't the best way to go out i admit, the last game should have never ended the way it did. But this is no reason to lose friendships, speak badly of one another. We entered this year to have fun, not to end up fighting in my opinion yall can get mad at me if ya want we all need to grow up, think about what happened and forgive one another, for we all know everyone in this world is not perfect and the only one that is, is not part of this earth. Again im not throwing this out to one team over another But i for one will start by saying im sorry that this had to end this way and hope no ones feelings were hurt to bad, if there is anything i can do just let me know i dont want any hard feelings.
